About Us

Gloria Scott-Richmond was a student director of the Evangelistic Singers along with James White in 1987 while pursuing her second bachelor’s degree in Music Education. As the club became an accredited ensemble, Scott-Richmond was asked to return as the director of EVS in 1990 until 1993. After a twenty-one hiatus, Scott-Richmond returned in January 2011 once more to become Evangelistic Singer’s director. For years, Mrs. Scott-Richmond has served as a music educator in the Cleveland City School system. She recently retired after 25 years of teaching at Blythe-Bower Elementary School. Currently, Mrs. Gloria serves as part of the new position on Lee’s campus in the Office of Racial and Ethnic Relations. Born and raised in England, Mrs. Scott-Richmond now lives in Cleveland with husband Rev. Tyrone Richmond and daughter April. We are excited to have Mrs. Gloria Scott-Richmond with the Evangelistic Singers to share with our choir the passion that God has placed in her heart for His people and this wonderful art form.

The Evangelistic Singers is a Spirit-filled ensemble, with a style that draws from the African-American gospel tradition. The repertoire includes a wide variety ranging from Spirituals to Urban Contemporary. On the Lee University campus with the help of the Lord, the Evangelistic Singers has their unique place in history. EVS, as it is fondly known, has spawned many anointed singers, musicians, pastors, evangelists, missionaries, and ministers who live in the United States and throughout the world. Many can remember long nights of prayer and fasting that resulted in many folks coming to know Christ and being transformed through our ministry of song and witness. The best news is that EVS is still going strong! The mantle has been passed on and the new generation of Evangelistic Singers are taking it to the next level. We are moving forward.
